Who Is Kittiwat Unarrom?

Since 2006 Thai artist Kittiwat Unarrom has used dough as his medium to sculpt gruesome renditions of hand, feet, heads, torsos and other body parts.

Unarrom, whose family runs a bakery, uses anatomy books and his memories of visiting a forensics museum to create the human body parts. In addition to heads crafted from bread, chocolate, raisins, and cashews, he makes human arms and feet, and chicken and pig parts, incorporating red food coloring for extra bloody effect. “When people see the bread, they don’t want to eat it,” he says. “But when they taste it, it’s just normal bread. The lesson is, don’t judge by appearances.”

His macabre project started out as the centerpiece of his final dissertation for his Master of Arts degree, but as word spread about his novelty-shaped bread, regular orders began coming in from the curious or from pranksters who want to surprise their friends.
