What Is Metatarsalgia?
Answer:
Metatarsalgia is a general term used to refer to any painful foot condition affecting the metatarsal region of the foot.
Pain and calluses under the balls of the feet (metatarsal heads) can be caused by footwear (especially high heels), pounding pavements, arthritis, being overweight, a high arch, or a bunion or toe problem that affects the way your foot strikes the ground. You may need blood tests or X-rays, and if cushioning pads (from your pharmacy) don’t help, a podiatrist may suggest corrective shoe inserts.
Morton’s neuroma is a fibrous growth on the nerve between two metatarsals. It causes pain, tingling and tenderness, and can be removed if symptoms are severe.
